KIVA ENTREPRENUER:: AUGUST

So the Greek root word 'philo' may mean love, but August's Kiva entrepreneur, Philomene, may be lacking in a bit of that for these poor guys on her table. Still, business is business!

So the Greek root word ‘philo’ may mean love, but August’s Kiva entrepreneur, Philomene, may be lacking in a bit of that for these poor guys on her table. Still, business is business!

For Philomene, business means selling fresh meats at her butcher shop in Cameroon to support her two children, as well as four others who depend on her. As a widow, daily meals, basic needs and school fees fall on her shoulders year after year. Luckily for Philomene, though, that she has a knack for business and keeps her customers coming back for more wild deer and…mongoose? meats. With our partnership and consequential loan to her family, Philomene is able to purchase bigger quantities of stock to keep her customers happy and expand the business. Great for her, not so much for the wildlife of Cameroon!
