New Masher Matt gets right into the Investec Cricket Zone…

So.. I play hockey, I love all sports but hockey is the one.. And what sport do all hockey players play when the summer starts, and the glorious British sunshine dries up all of our lovely Astroturf pitches? Cricket of course.. It’s something to do with transferable skills and the unnervingly good hand eye co-ordination we all have! So, with this in mind, to be given the almighty reigns on the Investec account this summer has been an absolute privilege because I don’t just like cricket.. I love it, in the words of a famous Twenty20 song!

So as a brief background, Investec has recently signed a 10 year sponsorship deal covering all England home test matches. As a first year partner, Investec wanted a presence, and a large presence at that, to ensure that consumers, cricket fans and the girl next door knew who they were and exactly what they do in both business and for England cricket. For this, they quite rightly approached the best promotional staffing agency in the business, looking for our best, most engaging, out-going female Mashers!

There was no hard sell, there were no ‘in your face’ tactics.. Instead, our fantastic girls donned their best cricket whites and engaged consumers in knowledge led conversations, driving people towards Investec cricket online. At each test we had a core team of Mashers, lead impeccably by the never ageing Tom Dyer and James Mountstephens. As a team they were tasked to deliver a seamless, effortless Investec consumer experience, using information filled 4 and 6 boundary cards to engage the consumer’s interest. At the 2 Lords tests alone, the girls managed to hand out over 45,000 4 and 6 boundary cards, engaging in thousands of face to face consumer conversations whilst driving as many as possible towards the on-line Investec Cricket Zone.

I was privileged enough to site visit the team for the final, most important test of the England vs South Africa series at Lords on the Friday afternoon. Not only was I over the moon to have a marketing pass for Lords, but I also found out I would be meeting the Olympic bronze medal winning women’s GB hockey team!! You’ll remember, if you’ve read carefully, that I love hockey.. Dream I thought! And it in no way disappointed.. Our lovely Investec girls were tasked with ‘entertaining the crowds’, and they duly delivered. As the crowds gathered and the incredibly overwhelming atmosphere of pride and appreciation swelled around us, Big man Dyer acting as door security, ushered the crowds through to the Olympians. They had never experienced such fame, and quite rightly they were loving every second of it! Of course I found myself embedded well within the crowd, like an eager young boy, waiting patiently for my turn to meet and congratulate the girls..Geek! All in all, a great afternoon out.

Despite the South Africa test series ending in disappointment, the Investec/Mash relationship certainly ended on a high. Our Mashers were even asked to help with the trophy presentation ceremony at the end of the final test, which was a massive privilege, despite of course it involving the wrong team!

The relationship we have built with Investec has grown from one of new beginnings to that of trust, reliability and ultimately proven delivered performance. None of the above would have been possible without fantastic support from Jen and the rest of the Investec team, Tom Dyer, James Mountstephens and of course our wonderful Mashers.. So from all of us in Mash Towers, a massive thank you!!

I can only end this with.. Bring on next summer and the Ashes!
