The value in values

We’re in the process of updating our creds, and are currently angsting about whether to include an overview of our company values. Our clients ultimately want brilliant staff – so will their eyes glaze over if we start discussing more lofty ideals?

We’re in the process of updating our creds, and are currently angsting about whether to include an overview of our company values. Our clients ultimately want brilliant staff – so will their eyes glaze over if we start discussing more lofty ideals?

The decision was made after our recent company sports day at Battersea Park – an awesome day where all our values were on display, amidst egg and spoon races and highly suspect “energy drinks”.

The volume of applause that erupted when four year old Poppy won the “don’t spill the water out of the wheelbarrow” race made me realise that Hero People was alive and well at Mash Staffing.

Witnessing one of our Mashers sharing personal space with Mike from accounts as they charged to victory in the three-legged race showed that Better Together had resonated somewhere.

While this part is still raw, following my perfect strike in the winner takes all rounders game with an equally perfect catch, suggests that Mash staff are also willing to Be Brave (I’m thinking of changing this one).

And from seeing our Head of Talent in full race official regalia blowing her whistle in time to the Rocky theme tune, to the unrehearsed communal cowering when our sporty Operations Director whacked the rounders ball into oblivion, left me in no doubt that everyone remembered to Enjoy It.

I’m also aware that these events don’t just happen. Our new retail guru Vic stepped up to organise the day, and then a team of us stepped in to help when Vic’s client requested a last minute meeting. And everyone happily ‘mucked in’ when we only had minutes to vacate the stadium – including some quite impressive if unplanned gate vaulting.

Mash Sports Day 2017 expressed our values perfectly. And we will give them pride of place within our company creds. Because, put simply, it is our values that enable us to be brilliant at what we do.
