Three Months as a Masher; or, Why You Guys Rock

I've been with Mash just under three months now - and while this is the business blog, I wanted to write a post on what I've learned about the world of Mash so far. We've just opened our books to a whole new bunch of Mashers from across the UK - and as I'll be heading up that recruitment programme, I figured now would be a pretty good time to do just that, to give you guys an idea of what Mash is like from the inside.

I’ve been with Mash just under three months now – and while this is the business blog, I wanted to write a post on what I’ve learned about the world of Mash so far. We’ve just opened our books to a whole new bunch of Mashers from across the UK – and as I’ll be heading up that recruitment programme, I figured now would be a pretty good time to do just that, to give you guys an idea of what Mash is like from the inside.

I’ve rapidly figured out that you can tell when you’re in a Mash environment – be that on a campaign, or in our London HQ – by the buzz the people bring to it. It’s a feeling you don’t get in many places, because it’s one that takes years to cultivate – but the guys here have done just that, from the artwork that lines the walls, to the upbeat culture that they’ve worked so hard to create.

The office team are, quite simply, brilliant. And I’m not just saying that because I have to. These guys all work so hard to ensure that everyone at every level of the campaign is happy – meaning they’re spinning a hundred plates at once. And yet for all that, you can usually hear at least a couple of people laughing, if you listen out for it, and to me, that’s the sign of a really great office.

I’ve also been out to visit a whole bunch of campaigns, and whatever the brand, Mashers seem to me like a special breed of superhero – they’ve got boundless energy, and a deep-rooted pride in what they do that makes them go the extra mile to deliver on every front. You’re also some of the most incredibly welcoming and genuine people I’ve ever had the pleasure to meet, and that’s made my first few months at Mash amazing. So thank you.

I think what really drives the culture across the board at Mash is passion, enthusiasm, and most of all, inspiration. It took a couple of weeks for me to figure out that everyone is so motivated to do a great job because they’re doing it for the pure love of it; because they’re inspired by what they do enough to make every day count.

That’s not something you find everywhere – and it’s something that makes every day with Mash inspiring for me. It’s also something I’ll be looking for when I’m recruiting new Mashers over the coming months: that drive, that pure passion and genuine spirit that makes Mash the very best in the industry.

I’m not just saying that, either. We’ve got the best staff, full stop.

I’ve had an amazing first few months here – and I can’t wait to meet more Mashers, both new and old, over the next few months. You guys rock – so here’s to the future!
